Spirits of the Forest: new blanket reveal

Are you a blanket type of person? I can’t say I am. I don’t even have so many blankets at home. Five years ago I made a granny square blanket with scraps of yarn for my son. Surprisingly it’s still alive, though some repair was needed. Then I made Birthday in Malmö blanket and Moonlight Butterfly Baby Blanket. I am still working on my Last Dance on The Beach project and it’s my Number 1 wip to be finished before next year comes. So as you can see there are not so many blankets in my “portfolio”. But little by little I start to be hooked in!

I am usually not patient enough to finish a large project. Especially if it consists of motifs. But recently I’ve noticed a nice large and “lazy” project can be a very refreshing change from all intricate designs I am usually busy with. I like to use my brain a lot while crochet, but sometimes it is also great to switch off, don’t count at all. And just crochet or knit. For long, endless hours.

One of such easy and lazy projects is my new Spirit Baby Blanket. It is named after yarn Spirit by Scheepjes  it was made with. You could see some sneak peeks last week (HERE) and read my yarn review HERE. I should say I am in love with this yarn! It is one of those great “self-pattern” examples when with minimal efforts you get a wonderful result in the end.

I didn’t think of something extraordinary for this blanket. It is made with basic garter knitting stitch. With simple colorful stripes. But yarn print (it’s not even a print, but semi-solid shades) makes it look very special.

I made these pictures in the end of summer. In the forests where we used to walk with my dog almost every day. I just loved to shoot this blanket against the wood, and grass, and on the lake shore. And I feel these backgrounds speak to the nature of Spirit yarn. Each shade is named after an animal, and I used 10 colors in total.

Spirit Baby blanket is approx. 82cm x 110cm (32in x 43in) and it only weights 260g! It’s light, airy and very draping… Just perfect for cool summer days, or beginning of autumn.

Spirit yarn is available for purchase via Wool Warehouse*,  Deramores* and in your local Scheepjes stores.
