Rozeta Scheepjes CAL 2019: Introduction

Hey! I know you have been impatiently waiting for the new Scheepjes CAL to be announced. And believe me, I have been waiting for this very moment even more impatiently. After almost two years of secret work finally here it is. Rozeta CAL! My pride, my dream and probably my most epic design!

What is the Rozeta CAL

Rozeta CAL is a rectangular blanket inspired by stained glass Gothic windows and magic of Northern Lights. Two different techniques were used to design this blanket: tapestry and overlay crochet. Round “flower” mandala is first framed with textured border and then squared up with corners. A rectangular tapestry panel is added at the bottom of the blanket. And finally, a stained glass border is crocheted around entire piece.

Inspiration

I’ve been a part of Scheepjes bloggers tribe for 4 years now (can you imagine it’s been 4 years already?!), and every year I enjoyed seeing and being a part – in a way – of annual Scheepjes CAL’s. I was observing from a distance and admiring all stunning designs and skills put into creating them.

Before Scheepjes approached me with a new CAL offer two years ago, I already had a few design ideas in mind which, I thought, would work nicely as crochet-a-longs. But after I felt brave enough to take this challenge and responsibility, I made quite a few swatches and apparently none of my ideas worked…

It felt like Rozeta was waiting for me from the very beginning. A picture of a stunning cathedral window literally “jumped” on me one day from Pinterest. And from that very moment I knew for sure I wanted to design a large stained glass mandala.

Word “Rozeta” is a Czech term in architecture describing large round stained glass window usually placed above the entrance of the buildings.

After first small test samples were finished, I thought that Our Tribe yarn would be perfect for this design. Its soft and beautiful color changes reminded me of Northern Lights which I have never seen in real life, but have been dreaming of. And suddenly I felt that it would be great to create my own “northern lights”, like looking at them through a beautiful “rozeta” window in different times of the day.

Here are several close-up to show magic colour changes and texture. And hopefully you’ll feel the drape of Rozeta blankets.

Not that I got a chance to create a design of my dream, I also developed a special colorway of Our Tribe yarn especially for Rozeta CAL – it’s called Lilla 2.

Our Tribe colorways were then “translated” into a brighter version with Colour Crafter yarn. I tried to keep the same look (each Our Tribe shade is presented with two Colour Crafter shades), with even bigger splash of colourful happiness! Both versions are very soft and drapey, and Colour Crafter blankets are a little bit bigger in size. I am in love with both!

  10. This is just stunning! I love the Midnight finished piece, I hate working with black but I will be for this one!! Will the pattern be available for purchase individually? I only ask because I have a very large stash of black yarn due to using it so infrequently. I love your work and have participated in as many of your crochet a longs as possible. 14. I love it, our tribe Dawn especially. Am I reading it right that I'm going to have to embroider? Or is it straight crochet?

    1. No, there will be no embroidery on the blanket. Embroidery thread is an extra "goodie" in the kit and we will use it for a small something after the blanket will be finished.

    2. Hi, Tatsiana! Thank you for your reply. Could you please tell me when the information about the yarn will be released so that I can order my colors? I wanted to change the dark blue in Twilight for a dark violet, so I won't buy a kit. But I'm so eager to make this CAL! I'm afraid not to get the yarn on time! Thanks!

  23. I LOVE THIS!!! Just added another CAL to my schedule. LOL Finishing your Dandelion pattern now -- and then working on another CAL that should be ending around the time that this one starts. So I should have a busy Fall -- thank you so much for making my "down-time" so much more enjoyable.

    1. Yeah -- I am but it's been a heck of a summer...and your patterns have helped me to process a lot of crap that's going on in my family. I've always told people I crochet because it's better to tie yarn into knots than people. So thank you for helping me keep my sanity.

  26. This pattern is breathtaking. I'm thinking it would make a perfect wedding gift for some friends who were just married, but I'm pretty sure it's above my skill level at this point. Could you suggest another of your patterns with similar techniques that I could try first, as a 'warm up?' Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. you'll have wonderful videos from Esther and progress pictures form me each week! to warm up please search for "tapestry crochet tutorial" and " front post clusters" on my blog. Those are the most "challenging" techniques. Otherwise all stitches are very basic.

The Rascol online store in France does not sell the kit because there is no French translation. Would it be possible to indicate for the version the twillight our tribe and colour crafter the exact references and the quantity by color in order to order the balls individually. Thank you.

  42. I do not need another blanket. Blankets are to be easy, no brain, something you can do on the side. Yet I could not resist - this is such a stunning design! I just received Twilight, and we are hoping to get Dawn by Christmas for my daughter. We are looking forward to some happy crochet time in the winter, which is cold and long here in Ontario, Canada. You are so talented, Tatsiana! THANK YOU!

  43. I absolutely love this pattern, I am working on Twilight now,I have also ordered the witching hour kit, I am wondering when a color placement will be released for that color way? Thank you for this lively design!
