A New Autumn Cowl – finished!!

My new Autumn Winds Cowl is finally finished! I made fresh pictures last weekend and feel very excited to share them with you. I am in love with my new cowl. It is very soft and very warm. And the colors worked together in an excellent way (at least according to my subjective taste). A free pattern will be released in a week, on next Tuesday.

Update: FREE pattern of Autumn Winds Cowl can be found HERE!

My cowl turned out to be short and wide and I decided about this shape on purpose. I've noticed that usually cowls are wide and loose but I prefer my neck to be protected from wind. So my cowl is first of all practical and not decorative. But its size is perfect to be worn over the head, so it also can serve as a hat in those most windy days.

Autumn Winds Cowl made of granny squares by Lilla Bjorn Crochet

I joined two rows of granny squares (four squares in each row) and added “granny fabric” with stripes of different colors to assemble them into a cowl. I am not very fond of symmetry and order so I did not follow any color pattern while finishing this cowl. I was just listing to my favorite music and changing colors in a way I felt. No need to say that its final look stayed a mystery for me till I made the last stitches. And this is what I really love about crochet.

I chose plain colors but they get a totally different look in the bright sunshine.

I used a 4 mm (G) crochet hook and 5 skeins of Merino Soft yarn by Scheepjes in total:

Shade 624 – one skein
Shade 625 – one skein
Shade 607 – one skein
Shade 609 – two skeins

But if you decide to make this cowl larger, you will definitely need more yarn.

You can read my review on Merino Soft yarn HERE and see progress pictures of this cowl HERE. After finishing my Autumn Winds Cowl I totally fell in love with this yarn and I will for sure order more shades and play with them in the future. And I will not give my cowl to anyone :) You can purchase this yarn either via Scheepjes local stores (NL) or via Deramores*  and Wool Warehouse* (ships yarn internationally), Paradise Fibers* (US).

Free pattern of this cowl will be released next Tuesday. I will try to create a chart for a granny square (this is a great challenge for me as I have never created a single crochet chart in my life). But if I don’t succeed in this – there for sure will be a detailed photo-tutorial. Or both!

    1. Making chart is not creative at all. Only technical skills are needed here, a little bit of logic (to mirror and rotate the stitches) and lots of patience. :) I have been struggling for the whole day today. We'll see if I manage to win this battle...
