Geometric Mandala was designed exclusively for Happily Hooked Magazine. A month ago Emily Truman, an editor, asked me for a permission to run a mini-CAL for their subscribes. And here it is!!
Especially for this event Geometric mandala was remade with Cahlista yarn* by Scheepjes: I wanted to show you the samples in different colors. And Cahlista was just the perfect choice: 100% cotton in the right weight.

Geometric Mandala is a project for beginners: very easy to follow and fast to make. It consists of two layers: lace mandala top and solid bottom, in contrasting colors. Four skeins of Cahlista (50g each) will be just perfectly enough to finish two hot pads in reversed colorway.
If you don’t feel like using these mandalas as hotpads or potholders (I would not dare myself), they can make nice trivets or wall hanging.
The CAL is run in Happily Hooked Magazine group on Facebook HERE (join it!) during the entire month January, 2018. So it’s definitely not late to jump in and join several thousands of fellow crocheters. The pattern is available both in my Ravelry shop HERE (it was discounted for January) or via Happily Hooked Magazine HERE.
Happily Hooked Magazine is a digital edition with new issues coming out every month. If you would like to receive fresh and exclusive patterns directly to your e-mail box, you can subscribe HERE (either for just a month or for the entire year).
This CAL was sponsored by Scheepjes. In the end of January one winner will receive a sample pack with Scheepjes yarns. And also a yearly subscription to Happily Hooked Magazine.
Will you join me for the CAL? :)

Mandala’s are my passion. I keep creating them. And I keep working in overlay crochet. But sometimes it’s nice to step away from colorful multiplicity and make something simple and monochrome. I designed this Geometric Mandala several months ago. Since then I’ve made a few samples with different yarns and in different sizes. And I like all of them.

This mandala project is very easy and relatively quick to make. The pattern is aimed to advanced beginners. It uses US crochet terms and you will only make chains, slip stitches, half double and double crochet stitches. There is nothing difficult or tricky!
This pattern is available for purchase HERE in my Ravelry store and you will get a 25% discount with the code Geometric through Monday, August 1.
I called this mandala “Geometric” as its lines are very clear and the repeating sections contain geometric elements.
From the very beginning my idea was to create a hot pad with pure jute yarn. This design was meant to be eco-friendly (I really wanted to use a recycled yarn), stiff and one-layered. But unfortunately I didn’t have the right yarn by hand at that time, so I used 100% Barroco Natural by Circulo instead. Because I had a nice skein of this yarn left in my stash. Barroco is much thinner and softer than jute is, so then I had to make a second, bottom, layer. And I thought that orange is a very nice addition to the white.
In general I think this mandala hot pad looks better with light coloured lace front and dark bottom, but reversed version will also be charming. More than that – you can make a set of several hot pads (or potholders) playing with the same light and dark shades!
By the way this pattern will work well for creating smaller potholders (if you use Sport yarn), making wall hanging decorations and appliqués for your fabric pillow covers (if you only use lace front) and trivets. And won't this mandala make just a perfect Christmas gift?..
Which shades would you choose to make this mandala? And what would you use it for? Please, feel free to share your ideas in comments! :)
