My photo frames made with Linen Soft yarn are finished!! I say “photo frames” because it was an idea from the very beginning. But when I was done with the last embroidery hoop I suddenly decided to use them as just hanging decorations. Mostly because I am not sure at the moment how pictures can be attached to them. But maybe I will come up with something and share with you next week, together with a free pattern!
Update: Free pattern can be found HERE!
Lasted Tuesday I published a short tutorial HERE on how to crochet a base around the embroidery hoop. And during last week I was continuing to work with my new design truly enjoying Linen Soft yarn by Scheepjes. This doesn’t happen very often as I am quite conservative in choosing yarns but I like everything about it. If you missed my review, please read it HERE. And you can have a look at color chart and purchase this yarn via Scheepjes.com (NL), Deramores* or Wool Warehouse* (international shipping) and Paradise Fibers* (US).
I really like natural look and touch of this yarn, and I am quite happy with chosen colors, too. In my dream I was imagining these frames with an ombre effect. But as I am totally addicted to overlay crochet, I decided to place contrasting colors together. And as a result an ombre effect if somewhere far away from here, but I am still very satisfied with my new design.
I picked wooden embroidery hoops in three sizes and created three different patterns which I will share with you next week. They are very easy but at the same time they give an opportunity to practice overlay crochet once again.

I am working on a new project with Linen Soft* yarn by Scheepjes and I am very excited to share some sneaks peeks of what is going on in my crochet world. I am really enjoying the yarn, it a great change from cotton. And I am happy with the colors, too as they give a true “linen touch” to the project. You can read my review on Linen Soft published last week.
As you already know, I am very bad in keeping secrets. So I can tell you I am making a set of photo-frames using embroidery hoops. I came across lots of wonderful pictures with crochet and embroidery hoops on Pinterest. And I’ve finally decided to add my own creations to this collection.

The hoops can be used as photo frames (as I would like them to be, but first I need to figure out how to attach pictures to them). Or they can serve as separate hanging wall decorations. I am making them in overlay crochet and you can expect free patterns very soon. So hopefully you will have lots of fun making them, too.

And in a meanwhile I would like to share a short photo tutorial on how to make a crochet base around the embroidery hoop. This base will count as a first round, and different overlay decorations will be added to it later.
To make the base, insert the hook through embroidery hoop, yo (yarn over) and draw a loop up through the hoop – you will get a loop. Yo above the hoop and pull yarn through this loop. Now *insert the hook through the hoop again, yo and draw up a loop, yo and pull yarn through both loops on the hook. Repeat from * around the hoop till you come to the beginning of the round (the amount of stitches will be different for each frame). If you want to change the yarn – make a “needle join” in the first stitch of the round. Please, see a tutorial HERE. Here it is! Your crochet base around the hoop is ready!
The hoop should not be visible between the stitches of the base round (pic. 1) and at the same time, and at the same time stitches should not ruffle (pic. 2).
