Spirits of Life CAL: Part 8. Final Edge!

Welcome to Part 8 of Spirits of Life CAL. This week is the final one before a simple border will be added. And I also hope it will bring you lots of relaxation after endless counting on previous parts. And… very soon your wrap will be finished, yay!

If you missed previous parts of Spirits of Life CAL, please check General Information, Important Notes, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6 and Part 7.

This week’s instructions are short. You know so much already and I am not sure what else I can add.

The only important thing I would like to draw your attention to is yardages! I know that many of you were very careful and precise, and you checked yardages after each new part of the CAL was finished. But some of you preferred to live dangerously. :)

If you are not very much on track with yardages and you feel like you are running out of some colors, don’t worry! We can fix it this week and hopefully you will not need to order additional skeins of yarn.

Part 8 is more or less the same as very first week of the CAL. We will be making colorful stripes again with a tiny touch of overlay crochet. I used a certain order of colors for my wraps, but it’s not really necessary to follow it exactly. If you run out of some shades, please, feel free to replace the colors according to your taste. It will not have a great impact on the final look of your wrap.

And if you were very careful with yarn amounts on previous parts, then you should have enough yarn to finish Part 8 and border as it’s written down.

**IMPORTANT** Don't forget to block the entire wrap ;-)

Here is a short video to help you with placement of overlay stitches. Please, make ch1 in the beginning of every row (not shown int he video...)

    New CAL is coming soon…

Today is the day! Can you keep the secrets? For me it’s an unbelievably difficult task. But I have been keeping a secret for almost 8 months working very hard behind the scenes. And today I can finally tell you: new CAL is coming soon!!! I have been working on this new design since early January. Lots of frogging and remaking was involved, but I am very happy with the final results. A full reveal will be waiting for you in a week here on my blog (so stay tuned not to miss it). And today I will show you a few sneak peeks.

What will it be? It will be a wrap! A large, very soft and draping, cozy wrap made with two very different Scheepjes yarns: Spirit and Catona (reviewed HERE and HERE). Though I can’t take the full credit for this idea to mix two different yarns. When we were chatting with Esther of It’s All In A Nutshell a while ago I told her about my creative idea, and I also expressed my doubts about which yarn to choose.

We have discussed it and came to a conclusion that since it’s a large wearable project, a light weight yarn with good yardage should work best for it. And Esther said: “Maybe you should look into Spirit?” And then: “Oh, and you can actually combine it with Catona. That will give a nice mixture of textures”. And I made my choice at once.

I can’t tell you much about this project right now. Let’s save some excitement for later. But what I would like you to know is that coming CAL will be a true crochet adventure. I mixed several crochet techniques together, but still tried to keep the patterns easy enough, so that Advanced beginners can try them out.

The CAL will begin on October 18th , 2017 and will run for 9 weeks. It will be FREE and each part will be released on my blog weekly. The CAL will be translated into several languages. And there will be ready kits available for purchase - produced and nicely packed by Scheepjes. The kits will be sold by local Scheepjes store as well as large retailers including Wool Warehouse (HERE)* (located in UK with international shipping). The kits will be available for sale on September 27. But you can sign up at Wool Warehouse web-site now and they will notify you by e-mail when kits are live.

    Spirit Baby Blanket in progress...

Do you remember gorgeous yarn I showed you 2 weeks ago? It’s called Spirit and it’s a brand new cotton blend yarn from Scheepjes. I was playing with it in the summer, and I am finally free to show you some sneak peeks. Yes, I do knit sometimes. And I truly think that Spirit yarn was just created for simple knit stitches (and it works great with crochet, too).

If you have never heard about this yarn before – please check my review HERE. After its publication I got a few questions about the colour changes. If they are long, or short, and how do they look like in the finished project. In my review you could see two small samples made with garter knitting stitch and single crochet stitch. But here are more knitting samples made with 9 different shades. Maybe they will give you a better impression of how Spirit yarn is “talking”.

These are small parts of my new baby blanket, which is not quite finished yet. But I hope that next week it will be ready for a big reveal. I chose garter knitting stitch and wanted to use as many shades as possible to show you what Spirit yarn is about. And I really like the effect.
