This Monday was very unusual in Brno. I woke up in the middle of nowhere. Everything was covered with snow. And it was still falling heavily. I swear, I had to take an umbrella on the way to my friend Xenia. We had an appointment for a photography. And it was just the perfect day to capture my newest Living Lagom Shawl. Who knows, maybe we won’t see that much snow in years now.
I was cold, I was wet, I was happy.
If you checked my blog last week, you have probably seen sneak peeks of this design. And I was also talking about source of my inspiration.
Living Lagom shawl was one of those designs which come out to the world naturally. Starting with the name, crochet concept and even pattern writing.
I believe it took me just three evenings to crochet the entire piece. Well, no wonder if you use bulky yarn (you'll need 5 skeins) and 7 mm hook*. And working with Namaste yarn by Scheepjes was a pure pleasure. This yarn is so soft, and so hugging.
I chose light grey color for myself, because I am fond of monochrome simple colors. And grey is just perfect to suite almost everything. But Namaste yarn comes in 34 gorgeous shades: both pastel and vibrant. And you really have what to choose from.
Namaste yarn is available in local Scheepjes shops and via online retailers:
I tried to keep Living Lagom shawl simple but with a certain touch of intricate details. So that it’s not too much, and not too little. Just “lagom”, or “just right”. And I hope I could achieve this balance.
The pattern will be written for one size, but it will be possible to play with measurements and make your own shawl smaller or larger. Just what you prefer.

It’s Wednesday! And it’s time to show my current wip. I’ve been working on a new crochet design recently, using heavenly soft Namaste* yarn by Scheepjes. My idea was to combine lace, open parts with simple cables. And to achieve a chunky, but light look. And it worked pretty well, I believe. I still need to block my shawl before I can reveal it. But I couldn’t help myself and here are several wips.
You know what is the most difficult in crochet design for me? Not to find an idea. They stick pretty well, and they are too many. And not to actually design – that also comes out naturally. Pattern writing can be a problem, especially if design is a bit tricky and it’s necessary to simplify instructions.
But the most difficult part in releasing a new pattern for me is… to think of a nice name! In very rare occasions the name comes first. And that was the case of the Living Lagom Shawl.
If you follow my blog for a while now, you might know that I fell in love with Sweden. And if you ask me why, I am not sure I could explain it clearly. Well, I couldn’t before last summer, when I suddenly came across a fantastic book by Niki Brantmark. The book is called “Lagom. The Swedish Art of Living a Balanced, Happy Life”*.
Niki is running a very successful and inspiring blog My Scandinavian Home. If you are looking for open, airy, laconic interiors inspired by light, make sure to check it out. I have been reading her blog for a while now, and I find inspiration in every single blog post.
So Lagom… Every time I come to Sweden I smell something in the air, and I feel it with my skin. Something I still can’t put into words. Something that makes me feel very comfortable and relaxed. And something I am trying to exercise in my daily life now. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
I am not sure if there is translation of “lagom” word in English… Probably not. But it literally means “not too much, and not too small. Just right”. And it can be applied to any area of life: personal life, relationship, home, work, parenthood, your inner world… For me “lagom” is about staying calm and feel balanced.
And my new Living Lagom Shawl is just like this. Soft, hugging, bringing peace and quite.
Today when I was taking pictures for this blog post it suddenly started to snow… Magic :)

Happy New Year! Feels like I haven’t been in touch for a while, and holiday wishes are also missing here, on my blog. Just before Christmas me and my family took a short break and went for vacations. Last days of the year 2018 were very busy, sometimes too busy… And small distraction felt like a good decision. But I am back now, trying to get back into the crochet rhythm of my life. That’s not easy I should say, but I am getting there.
Every year I make a photo collage with the projects designed in past 12 months. I usually write a separate blog post to share my year’s resolutions with you. I didn’t want to break this nice tradition and even though no blog posts happened I still wanted to show you my collage.
It doesn’t contain all designs, as there were a few smaller projects and commissioned patterns for magazines. But anyway it feels like a LOT has been done. And I can only wish (to you and myself) this year will be not less creative and inspiring.
I got back to my crochet hook right after New Year’s Eve and somehow managed to bring to life several crochet ideas at once. One of them was a chunky crochet shawl: slightly asymmetrical, with a combination of cables and open parts.
The stitch pattern swatch is ready and I have a very clear vision of how this shawl should look. So hopefully it will not take long to actually crochet, and then write the pattern down.

I will be using Namaste yarn by Scheepjes. This will be not my first time working with it. If you follow my work, you might remember a large knit Bakasana Scarf released last year. I liked the feel and texture of Namaste yarn and decided to try my hand in crochet as well.

Yarn label recommends 8mm hook and needles, but it feels like 7mm is even better. At least I will be using 7mm for my new design. And I hope to stay within 5 skeins to keep my shawl light.

Bakasana Scarf was inspired by gorgeous Namaste yarn by Scheepjes, and was named after one of the yoga poses. The scarf is large, soft and cozy, and can be also worn as a wrap.
