Grinda MAL: Part 4 (English US)

Grinda MAL is slowly moving to its end, and today is week 4 already! Thank you very much for posting pictures of your beautiful creations. Many shawls have been finished already, but I also know that many of you follow the MAL week by week. Today’s Part 4 is about hearts. The hearts symbolizing love for small Grinda island in Stockholm Archipelago.

A visit to Grinda is like stopping the earth from rotating for a little while.

Grinda is a charming destination for the whole family. The island, also a nature reserve, is owned and managed by the Archipelago Foundation. There are nice and child-friendly bathing areas at both the southern and northern steamboat piers. The island also has several beautiful viewpoints. Take a stroll and enjoy the tranquility and nature. Grinda is serviced daily by several ferries. Welcome to Grinda. (sourse - grinda.se)

Grinda island is situated further in the sea, but still not too far for a one-day trip. Depending on the ferry schedule you can get there in just two hours. And then many more hours to enjoy silent walks in the woods and among huge stones, listening to the sea and being just yourself.

Spirits of Life CAL: Part 4. C2C Waves

Welcome to Part 4 of Spirits of Life Wrap CAL. If you are reading this, I believe you are right on track with previous parts. If not – don’t worry. The patterns and video tutorials will stay online and free forever. I hope this week will be a nice experience for both fans of C2C (corner-to-corner) crochet technique and those who have never tried it before. If you are familiar with C2C then this week should be relaxed and relatively easy for you. And if you are a newbie, here is the chance to learn something new again!
Spirits of Life Wrap CAL: Part 4. Corner-to-Corner Waves (C2C). Designed by www.lillabjorncrochet.com in collaboration with Scheepjes

If you missed previous parts of Spirits of Life CAL, please check General Information, Important Notes, Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

Part 4 consists of three dividers and two C2C panels which are worked on the top of completed body of your wrap, diagonally with join-as-you-go method. C2C Panel 1 is made with three shades and C2C Panel 2 is a bit easier, as you will only use two shades for it.

Please, note that this pattern doesn’t give basics of C2C crochet technique. If you want to practice before you actually jump to the CAL, please, try these two tutorials (HERE and HERE) by It’s All in A Nutshell and One Dog Woof. And to get a deeper insight into join-as-you-go method, you can try my Pastel Triangles pillow pattern HERE.

As you may know already, C2C crochet is mainly worked from charts. I understand that it might be tricky for beginners, so I wrote detailed text instructions, row by row. While following them you can also refer to charts, and to the video’s. I believe with all kinds of written and visual directions Part 4 should not be difficult for you.
Spirits of Life Wrap CAL: Part 4. Corner-to-Corner Waves (C2C). Designed by www.lillabjorncrochet.com in collaboration with Scheepjes

Corner-to-Corner crochet projects can be made in one-two shades only. And with multiple colors. For me the hardest thing in this technique is to understand how exactly colors should be changed. To make Part 4 as easy as possible, I wrote the pattern in such a way that all color changes are made similarly.

Colors are always changed when completing slip stitch when two cells of different colors “meet” (pic 1) or when you need to change yarn on the edge. Holding both yarns behind work, insert the hook into space of next cell and complete slip stitch with new yarn (pic 2). Tighten previous yarn (pic 3). Now continue to work new cell with new yarn. Isn’t it easy?!
Change of colors in C2C crochet

A very important thing you should always keep in mind while following the pattern is that C2C Panels are joined to the wrap’s “body” with join-as-you-go method.

To join as-you-go you will attach C2C panel to main body of the wrap with slip stitches in the beginning or end of EVERY row. While attaching panel to the body of the wrap, you will skip one OR two stitches on the last row of the body. The rows of the panel on which you will skip only ONE stitch are marked with red dots in the chart. When joining the rest of the Rows you will skip TWO sts on the body of the wrap.
C2C crochet - chart

That sounds veeery tricky. I know! But don’t worry. Just follow the pattern row by row and you will understand the idea. You may ask why should you skip one or two stitches on the body? Why not to always skip one or always two stitches? The answer is very simple: C2C panel should match the body perfectly in size. I tried different ways of designing this part. But it was getting either too wide, or too narrow. And the final version you will see – works the best (trust me)!

Here are colorways for Spirit of the Lake, Spirit of the Volcano and Spirits of the Orchid wraps:

Peacock Tail Bag CAL: Part 4

Hi there! Is it Wednesday again and time for Part 4 of a Peacock Tail Bag? Yes and Yes! Not very many important notes for today as you know almost everything already. And you will be just repeating the same elements you used in previous parts. To make it easier for you – here are the previous parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and General Information about this mini CAL can be found HERE.

I should tell you something… I am coming through a very tough time these days. I can’t understand how the world can be so unfair and wrong. If only I could, I would just stay in a small circle of my family and friends, and with you – who support me and help me to keep designing. Last two days were extremely difficult and I was almost about to quit designing at all. But then I came to Instagram, and browsed latest posts. And saw your wonderful pictures of the Peacock Tail Bag, and read your lovely comments. Really… This vibrancy of colors and your love almost made me cry. Thank you very much for staying with me, for reading this blog and for supporting me.

Well… anyway. Here is what I wanted to tell you before we jump to Part 4.

Important Notes

1. Today’s part is critical for your bag’s width, because next part will be worked in short rows (and Part 6 will be only about joining and putting your bag together). We’ve discussed the importance of correct gauge already. But I was also asked about the kits and if interfacing and fabric will be enough for lining in case your bag is turning out to be bigger.

Well, if your bag will get not more than 48cm deep (which can hardly be possible), then the fabric is ok. You also have two pieces of interfacing (10cm x 40cm). If after Part 4 your bag is not wider (on the top, from side to side) than 37cm (14 ½ inches) than you are ok with interfacing, too.

2. Please, use the same techniques as for previous two parts, it means “modified clusters” and standing hdc for beginning of the rows. Just to remind you, the tutorials can be found HERE and HERE.

3. If you use Instagram and Pinterest, please, mark all your posts with #PeacockTailBagCAL so that I could find them, and love them.

Just a small remind. I am using Linen Soft yarn by Scheepjes and 2.75mm (С) Clover Soft Touch hook*. Linen Soft is available for purchase via Wool Warehouse HERE* (international shipping), Paradise Fibers (US) HERE* or in your local Scheepjes shop. Separate bag handles, magnetic clasps and D-rings are available via Wool Warehouse HERE*.

If you have any questions, please, check in Official CCC Social group on Facebook or in my Ravelry group.

And (surprisingly) this is everything I wanted to tell you today! :)
Let’s begin!!
