Grinda MAL: Part 5 (English US)

Welcome to final part of Grinda MAL. Thank you very much for joining me in this journey. So many Grinda shawls have poped up in my social media feeds and groups. I am happy you are having fun. And hope to see even more “Grindas” in the future. Today we are saying good bye to a charming small island and take the boat back to mainland. It’s time to go home…

Grinda MAL: Part 4 (English US)

Grinda MAL is slowly moving to its end, and today is week 4 already! Thank you very much for posting pictures of your beautiful creations. Many shawls have been finished already, but I also know that many of you follow the MAL week by week. Today’s Part 4 is about hearts. The hearts symbolizing love for small Grinda island in Stockholm Archipelago.

A visit to Grinda is like stopping the earth from rotating for a little while.

Grinda is a charming destination for the whole family. The island, also a nature reserve, is owned and managed by the Archipelago Foundation. There are nice and child-friendly bathing areas at both the southern and northern steamboat piers. The island also has several beautiful viewpoints. Take a stroll and enjoy the tranquility and nature. Grinda is serviced daily by several ferries. Welcome to Grinda. (sourse - grinda.se)

Grinda island is situated further in the sea, but still not too far for a one-day trip. Depending on the ferry schedule you can get there in just two hours. And then many more hours to enjoy silent walks in the woods and among huge stones, listening to the sea and being just yourself.

Grinda MAL: Part 3 (English US)

Hello and thank you for joining Grinda MAL. We are slowly approaching third part and I hope you are doing great! Today the pattern will slightly change and we will be building “polka dots”, or large islands. One of them is Vaxholm, often referred to be a capital of Stockholm Archipelago.
Grinda MAL: Part 3. Free #crochet pattern by www.lillabjorncrochet.com

Vaxholm is just in hour’s ferry ride from Stockholm, and it’s truly a very popular tourist destination. The island is lovely with beautiful houses, calm beaches and lots of cafes and restaurants. We spent long hours here: my husband with a book and me with crochet.

If you are using paid pdf please note there were several updates made this week. The chart for Part 4 was re-uploaded, and stitch count in extension after Part 4 (so called “next row”) should be: 148dc and 147 ch1-sps. You can find errata on Ravelry pattern page.

Grinda MAL: Part 2 (English US)

Our sea journey continues and Part 2 of Grinda MAL is here. We have left the Stockholm city and our boat is heading to the open sea. The boat was a bit slow while sailing along the city vein between old charming buildings. But now when the city is left behind the speed is faster and we can enjoy fresh wind playing with the hair.

Whether you are sitting on a wooden bench inside the boat or standing on the open deck outside, you can enjoy the magical sea view. And honestly I have never seen anything like this before.

Stockholm Archipelago consists of numerous islands of different sizes and shapes. Some of them are as small as, I don’t know, a playground maybe? With just one house, several trees and a boat parked in the waves. These tiny islands look especially fragile when huge ferries are passing by. And there are lots and lots of them.

Part 2 of Grinda shawl repeats the same lace pattern as in previous part, but with textured popcorns, symbolizing tiny islands in the open sea :)
